The Beginning of Sycamore Print

This company dates back to 1928 when Mr R.H. Waddell started printing in a spare room in his Melbourne Street house. He had recently emigrated from Belfast where he had been a printer since 1885.

Mr Waddell moved to Liffey Street in the 1930s, operating from a shed at the rear of the family home. The present company was formed in 1946 when R.H. Waddell and his son, John, purchased the old established Invercargill printing company of Lyon Brothers. The Waddells moved to the Lyons' factory at 6 Tay Street and formed a new company, R.H. Waddell and sons Ltd.

Graham Sycamore joined John Waddell in 1966 and the firm changed to Waddell and Sycamore Ltd. They moved to the present site in 1968 and became Sycamore Print Ltd in 1974.

A change to offset printing in the 1970s began a rapid growth phase and the company has continued to maintain modern production facilities, utilising state of the art technology.

In recent years the company has expanded its operations and regularly services clients throughout New Zealand and Australia.
